Meet the Maker - More Than Music

Tell me a little bit about your company's origin story:

More Than Music LLC started in 2021 as a way to offer music-based meditation classes. Since then it has grown in many directions. I am now offering meditation studio classes as well as individual music healing sessions. In addition, I have started making jewelry, home-decor, and health/beauty products. I have been a special education teacher for the last 10 years and as a result of a severe latex allergy, I have had to take a leave of absence from teaching and find a different way to make a living. I have tapped into all of my talents and gifts in order to grow my business.

What do you love about being a small business owner?

I love that as a small business owner I am able to set my own hours and work in more controlled environments where I'm safer from allergens. I also like connecting with other people, whether it be my colleagues at The WELLness Collective, other business owners, or people within the community.

What is the most difficult part of what you do?

The most difficult part of running a small business is learning all of the different aspects to it: Marketing, taxes, finances, forms, etc. I'm constantly learning new things.

What is your favorite product from your company?

I absolutely love our bath salts. The bath salts smell wonderful and are so soothing. I have been growing flowers in my garden that will be used in the next batch of salts. It will be so rewarding to see my home-grown flowers go from seed to an ingredient in completed bath salts!

What advice would you give to other people trying to start their own business?

Believe in yourself!

If you didn't do this, what else would you be doing?

Well, this question is a little backwards for me. This opportunity has arisen from me not being able to continue my teaching career. I had started the business before I had to pause on my teaching career, but since then I have had to grow and expand my business to make it my full time job. It has been an unexpected blessing!
